Many log truckers who haul from the woods are exempt from the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate (for recording Hours-of-Service) that went into effect on December 18. (See FRA Technical Release 17-R-14) Small businesses who do not meet the exemption criteria, but who feel the financial burden of purchasing ELDs have a short window of opportunity to submit comments to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) on how the ELD mandate will impact them.
