Roads provide important access to your land. But when they aren’t properly maintain, roads can have a negative impact on the waterways on your land. To help protect your streams and creeks:
- Regularly inspect your roads
- Repair roads by filling in wet spots
- Grade your roads to maintain proper drainage
- Ensure ditches and culverts are free of debris
Every state has developed Best Management Practices (BMPs) that include information on forests roads, including how to construct them to protect the water on your land and how best to maintain your roads. As a Tree Farmer, you have made a commitment to implement these BMPs. Your forester is also a great resource if you have any questions about the state of your road and what needs to be done.
