Message from the ATFS

The American Tree Farm System writes:

DEAR TREE FARMERS,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2017 Third-Party Assessment with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC). In January, Tree Farms in Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Montana, North Carolina, and South Carolina were randomly selected by PwC to represent the efforts of ATFS and Tree Farmers across the country. Professional foresters from PwC visited these Tree Farmers between April and June to discuss their management plans and walk their properties. Time and again, the PwC field team remarked on the impressive work these Tree Farmers were undertaking to address forest health issues, improve wildlife habitat, and ensure their land remains forested into the future. The assessments are an integral part of the Tree Farm monitoring program and ensures the credibility of our internationally-recognized certification system.

If you are selected for a future assessment, please know that this is an opportunity to show off your great work and represent the truly impressive efforts of Tree Farmers across the country. In the meantime, the best way to prepare for such an experience is to make sure that your management plan is up to date and in conformance with the 2015-2020 ATFS Standards and that you are working towards your goals for your land.  The ATFS Addendum is a tool that you can use to ensure your plan meets the ATFS Standards. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your state committee or the ATFS national staff.

Thanks for all that you do for ATFS and your forest land!
